ORIENT were in cruise control during this friendly match, over which a shadow was cast by the sight of young Jake Argent leaving the field on a stretcher.

The youngster had only just come on as a substitute for goalscorer Jonathan Téhoué early in the second half, when he was grounded in an innocuous looking challenge.

Apart from that unfortunate incident, this match against ex-O's boss Martin Ling's Cambridge Utd side was a sedate affair, lit up by two last minute goals at the end.

Players looked to be sparing themselves from challenges which might risk injury, with one eye on the League One kick-off next week.

Substitute Matthew Spring supplied the highlight of the game with his goal on 82 minutes, an audacious effort from the half-way which sailed over keeper Simon Brown who was left stranded in no-man's land.

Earlier, Téhoué opened the scoring when he latched onto Jarvis' long ball in a move which began in Orient's penalty area in defending a corner on 29 minutes. He nudged his effort past the on-rushing Brown.

It was conceded because the back line was loath to put in a challenge and that meant Adam Marriot for U's had plenty of chances. He was voted man of the match by Orient's directors, and only three sharp saves by Jamie Jones in goal denied him a goal.

Robbie Willmott got one back for the host's on the stroke of full-time from the penalty spot after Mike Cestor was beaten on the touchline and made a foul.

But the lead was soon re-established by veteran Scott McGleish. Straight from kick-off he was put in by Adrian Patulea and dinked a neat chip over Brown.

Now for Dartford on Tuesday, and then the big kick-off next week at Yeovil.
