Orient finish the season on a high
Leyton Orient 3
Bristol Rovers 1
(League One)
ORIENT secured their first win in eight to end the season on a high, following late strikes from Adam Boyd and substitute Jabo Ibehre, writes James Randall.
in an entertaining fixture, both Rovers Byron Anthony and O's striker Wayne Gray squandered good chances.
Gray, however, made up for his glaring miss when he burst into the visitors box only to be hauled over by keeper Steve Phillips.
The striker dusted himself off though to slot home his tenth goal of the campaign.
The Gas levelled it up on 29 minutes, when Rickie Lambert headed home Stuart Cambell's cross.
Both sides continued to create chances, with Sean Rigg going close for Rovers and JJ Melligan at the other end.
Orient keeper was called into action shortly after the break, as he made an excellent stop to deny Craig Disley.
Ibehre, who replaced the injured Gray at the break then appeared to have a header handled on the line by Aaron Lescott, only for ref Robert Shoebridge to wave play on.
The O's striker continued to be in the thick of the action, when he first saw another header come back of a post, before another was kept out by Phillips.
Boyd finally increased the hosts lead nine minutes from time, after Boyd latched onto Paul terry's pass and swivelled on the edge of the area before firing past Phillips.
And Ibehre also got in on the act in stoppage time, as he pounced on Steve Elliott looping header to scramble the ball past Phillips.
The win wasn't enough for the O's to over haul Swindon, but saw Martin Ling's men finish the season in 14th spot and on 60 points for the campaign.
Reflecting on event Ling said: "It has not been a good end to the season, because we've only once in the last eight games, but it was important that we finished with a win."
Orient: Morris, Purches, Saah, Oji (Thornton 65), Palmer, Melligan (Barcham 65), Terry, Chambers, Demetriou, Boyd, Wayne Gray (Ibehre 46). Unused: Daniels, Shields.
