Gray hopeful over knee injury

ORIENT striker Wayne Gray was keeping his fingers crossed yesterday (Wednesday) that he wouldn't miss the start of next season after suffering a serious knee injury in the O's 3-1 win over Bristol Rovers on Saturday.
The 27-year-old forward scored his tenth goal of the campaign in the club's last game of the season, before being replaced at the break by Jabo Ibehre.
He then hobbled out of Brisbane Road on crutches, before having scans on Tuesday that revealed medial ligament damage.
The former Yeovil striker was still due to get a second opinion yesterday at the Lister Hospital, Victoria, in the hope that there wasn't any further damage.
Speaking yesterday, he said: "I fell awkwardly and heard a click, although at the time it didn't seem serious and I was just hoping it was the muscle.
"The scans (on Tuesday) showed some damage to the medial ligament, although the club still wanted a second opinion.
"Hopefully if it is just damage to the medial ligament I won't be able to do anything for about weeks. And while I'd miss part of pre-season I'd still be back for the start of the season.
"If there is damage though to say the cruciate I will be out of action until Christmas."
Club physio Lewis Manning confirmed yesterday (Wednesday) that the club was still in the dark about the full extent of the injury until a further opinion on the scan results.
