BLOG: It was certainly a season of two halves for Orient

In his latest fan blog, Pandamonium editor and O's supporter Mat Roper takes a first of a three part look into Orient's season.

So, it's all over then. Another nine months of hell for most of us (that's just fanzine editors - lol) and we can safely say that it was a season like no other I have ever known. Someone said to me the other day at the home game with Bristol Rovers that they simply cannot remember having such a completely differing two halves of the season. I agreed. I remember starting well or doing badly for a few games, but not being top of the form table, then being bottom in a complete reversal!

In part two of this blog I will assess each player and in part three will make grim reading as I pick over the season as a whole.

Anyway, enough for now. It was just nice to get a win on the final day of the season and hang onto 14th place. For at least half the game we were the better side and despite it having a bit of a training, last day of the season feel about it, we knocked the ball around well and played some nice stuff. It was good to see all three strikers sign off with a goal, although I don't think Jabo even got anything more than a shirt touch on his one!

Boydy's goal was a bit of class and had he of course taken and scored the penalty he would have finished fourth joint top goalscorer in the division and for all his faults and knockers this season, that aint bad going.

It's always nice to sign off with a win and at least it gave us all something to remember over the summer.

As for elsewhere this week, it was a pleasure and honour on Bank Holiday Monday to officiate at Brisbane Road for the Dale Jacobs trophy - a game between LOFT and Orientear fanzine for charity on behalf of McMillan Cancer research - an idea born out of the sad passing away of LOFT and 'ear representative Dale Jacobs earlier this year.

After all my bragging on the official MB, I can safely say that even despite what type of game it was, I was clearly the most competent official at Brisbane Road this year - lets face it, couldn't be any worse than that idiot who missed the handball from Palmer's header on Saturday!

Apparently the two organisations (LOFT and Orientear) have raised something in the region of £1100. There have also been many nice comments from everyone about what makes supporting Orient so special on a day like this and how you wouldn't get this at a Premiership club (me being firmly one of them). Can you imagine trying to get Wenger or Ferguson (and their board) to give you use of the ground facilities, donate a signed shirt, let you actually change in the changing rooms etc etc - dont make me laugh!

So, there we go for Part one of three. Part two comes later this week and please, please, please do not forget to vote in the PANDA end of season poll. Whether you are a regular reader or not at all is un-important - I still want your vote.

Another cheeky plug for the "book" out in August - O's 50 greatest games coming your way for a very small fee and we also finally have an IT expert working on a brand new website for Panda which will hit the World Wide Web in June, or July.

Until later this week, up the O's!
