Eton Manor Athletics Club celebrated a double win at the North London Cross Country Championships in Ruislip as the club claimed first place in both the men’s and women’s events.

Alex Gounelas (21.55) led from the outset and held off a late challenge from rivals finish 15 yards ahead of a nearest competitor.

It was a return to form for Gounelas who had a lengthy lay-off earlier in the year due to injury.

It has also been quite a fortnight for Tomas Stasionis who followed up his impressive third place in last week’s London Cross Country Championships with a win in north London.

The Lithuanian proved too strong over the five mile course for his nearest rival winning in 25.08 and could later be seen dancing around the field balancing the winning trophy on his head.

Stasionis long term goal is to lift the individual Chingford League title and with two league wins out of two races looks strongly positioned for another good winter season.

The brace of wins comes on the back of Eton Manor’s men’s team attracting several strong new runners which should help them improve on their mid-table team placing in the coming months
