Woodford Green with Essex Ladies' Daniel Awde came eighth in the final of the 400m at the Sainsbury's British Championships in Birmingham this afternoon.

The 26-year-old crossed the line in 46.64, level with Andrew Steele in seventh and only just behind sixth-place Nigel Levine (46.62).

Awde reached Sunday's final by finishing third in his heat on Friday evening, enough to secure his place in Saturday's semi-finals as one of the top four in his heat.

The Team GB Olympian improved on his time of 47.39 in Saturday afternoon's semi-finals, finishing second to England team-mate, Conrad Williams, in the second of three semis.

A time of 46.16 - his best of the weekend - saw Awde secure his place in the final at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.

However Awde came up short in the final against more significantly more experienced 400m runners, with winner Rooney taking his fifth 400m British Championships title.
