Joel Cannell admitted it was back to reality after his Wimbledon campaign ended with first round boy's doubles defeat.

Cannell, 16, and partner Max Stewart were always in a close match with Argentinean number six seeds Francisco Bahamonde and Matias Zukas, going down 6-3, 6-4 in the junior event.

And he admitted the match turned on just a few points.

"We were keeping up with them but then we threw in a slack game and that was it, they got a break and served it out," said Cannell.

"The second set was much better, our energy levels increased but one mistake cost us another break and that was it - game over.

"We had plenty of chances but at his level you can't throw in unforced errors and get away with it. Every decision you make has to be spot on.

"It's such small margins between winning and losing at this level. In doubles it's all about getting the momentum and once you lose that it's tough to get it back, especially against a pair as good as that."

Cannell and Stewart had high hopes for a good run at SW19, having reached the second round of recent Nike International, only narrowly losing to the eventual finalists, despite holding a match point.

And the teenager, the British junior number four, admitted returning to the normal tennis circuit - without the perks and privileges of playing at Wimbledon will now be tough.

"This is the best tournament in the world and I would have liked to have done better," he said.

"The atmosphere is buzzing. You still play at a high level throughout the rest of the year but there isn't the people and the support.

"I'm going to struggle going back to our normal tournaments having played here. I think that's why they do it - to give us a glimpse of what it could be like if we work hard and become professionals.

"It's an amazing taste of what it could be like as a player if you hit the big time."
