Waltham Abbey have climbed into the top-half of Ryman North Division One table by winning twice in the space of three days.

A 3-1 win at Tilbury on Tuesday evening built upon Saturday’s 3-0 win at Wroxham, propelling the Abbotts into tenth place.

Hosts Tilbury took the lead after 19 minutes through Jack West, but their advantage was short-lived as the visitors equalised two minutes later when Joseph Kizzi bagged.

The goals kept on coming, and four minutes later, James Peagram put Abbey into the lead.

With just six minutes remaining, the in-form Jason Hallett kept up his hot streak by scoring his fifth goal in six games, killing off the contest for good.

Hallett had been instrumental on Saturday too, inspiring the Abbotts to a 3-0 win at Wroxham.

Kick-off was delayed by 15 minutes as Abbey had forgotten to bring their shorts, but this didn’t stop the visitors getting off to the ideal start by taking an eighth minute lead.

Tom Bruno scored the early penalty to put the Abbotts ahead and Hallett almost doubled the lead soon after, blazing over the bar from a good position.

The winger did score the second just before the half-time whistle, Hallett following in after Wroxham goalkeeper Elliot Pride had saved Peagram’s initial effort.

Victory was secured just after the hour when the unmarked Peagram converted at the back post following a quick Abbey breakaway.

At the other end of the division, bottom-of-the-league Redbridge were cruelly denied a point at Wroxham by an 88th minute winner.

Christy Finch netted after 19 minutes to put Wroxham ahead. However two goals before the break turned the game in favour of Dave Ross’ strugglers.

First Mark Nougher equalised in the 39th minute and, on the stroke of half time, Chinedu McKenzie put the away side into the lead for the first time on the night.

In the 76th minute, Wroxham levelled through Nathan Stone and, 12 minutes after drawing level, the hosts struck a cruel blow by re-taking the lead via Danny White - despite having been reduced to ten men following Matthew Halliday’s sending-off.

It was a familiar story for Redbridge, who were denied what would have been just their second win of the season by a late equaliser to draw 2-2 at Tilbury on Saturday.

The home side took the lead after 24 minutes when Emiel Aiken took advantage of a plethora of corners to net with an agile overhead effort.

However, two goals in as many minutes turned the game in Redbridge’s favour after the break and looked to have put the Motormen on-course for a much-needed second league win.

Brian Moses scored in the 65th minute before McKenzie handed Ross’ men the lead almost immediately.

Just two minutes from time, though, Tilbury stole a share of the spoils when Sam West touched home Tom Wood’s free-kick to level.

In the Essex Senior League, Waltham Forest ran unbeaten Bowers & Pitsea close but eventually succumbed to a 3-2 home defeat.

Ash Walker-Kyriacou scored shortly before the break to put Bowers ahead. Jose Agua then pulled the Stags level after the restart.

Agua then doubled up to hand the home side a surprise lead, only for two goals in the final 20 minutes to turn the match on its head.
