Waltham Abbey’s record-breaking FA Cup run finally came to an end on Saturday as they were knocked out at the third qualifying round stage by Harrow Borough.

The Isthmian Premier Division side ran out 2-1 winners at Earlsmead and progress to the fourth qualifying round - one away from the first round proper - at the Abbotts’ expense.

Hosts Harrow took the lead inside a minute when Lewis Driver picked out Marc Charles-Smith to fire beyond Abbey goalkeeper James May from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Michael Bryan almost doubled the lead for the home side; May displaying his agility from close-range to deny the former Northern Ireland international.

Waltham Abbey replied when James Peagram and James Hallett combined well and the latter was well-denied by former Barnet goalkeeper Nicky Jupp.

Within two minutes of the re-start, Abbey drew level. Hallett slipped a clever ball into the path of Ben Hart and he was subsequently brought down by the onrushing Jupp. From the resulting penalty Tom Bruno stepped up to send Jupp the wrong way and draw Abbey level.

Abbotts keeper May did well to deny Charles-Smith, but just after the hour mark, Harrow scored what proved to be the winner.

A long diagonal pass from Jake Gilbert released Steve Butterworth on the left and he broke clear before coolly slotting beneath May to send Abbey into the fourth qualifying round.

Paul Wickenden's side bounced back on Tuesday night by beating Burnham Ramblers 5-3 - ending a winless streak of four games.

Jason Hallett and Joseph Kizzi each struck twice for the Abbotts, with James Elmes also getting in on the act in a comprehensive victory.

On Tuesday, Redbridge claimed their second 2-1 win of the season over Aveley.

Goals from Chinedu McKenzie and Leon Smith sealed the win, with Smith grabbing the winner in the 90th minute to move the Motormen up to 17th place.

In the Essex Senior League, Waltham Forest recorded back-to-back wins for the first time since April 2013 with a 3-2 win over London Bari.

The lead was Forest’s after five minutes; Hassana Traore netting his third in as many outings with a deflected effort from outside the penalty area.

An error from goalkeeper Yakup Seyer allowed London Bari to equalise, but parity was short-lived as James Ogunleye nodded home at the back past to restore the lead.

It was not long until Jose Agua drilled home the third and put the Stags into a comfortable lead.

However, a clumsy challenge from Ali Shikheey saw Bari awarded a penalty, only for Seyer to push the effort against the post to safety.

Bari scored a second after the break, but could not find an equaliser as Forest moved up to ninth place.
