Old Loughtonians men’s Seconds came from behind to grab a dramatic 4-3 victory over the University of Cambridge in the regional Second XI Cup on Saturday.
Shorn of a number of his regular squad members, head coach Steve Ashton had to dip into the Thirds and might have feared the worst when his side went 2-0 down.
Loughts got one back through Tom Golding, only for Cambridge to score their third. Not to be perturbed, a spirited Loughts side rallied, with Dave Humber and Jack Head (2) sealing progress with little over a minute remaining.
Loughts’ reward is a tie with Holcombe in the next round.
The ladies Seconds enjoyed a far easier afternoon, thrashing Romford Seconds 26-0.
In National League action, Old Loughtonians ladies came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Harleston Magpies.
