Three quick-fire goals were enough to undo Wapping as they lost 3-2 at home to Bedford on Saturday.

Hosts Wapping made the ideal start to the contest and took the lead after 15 minutes when Felix Styles created and converted to open the scoring.

However in the final ten minutes of the half, Wapping took their foot off the gas and were made to pay for their failure to maintain their earlier intensity and Bedford struck three quick-fire goals; two at the end of the first half and one at the beginning of the second.

Wapping did however dominate the final 25 minutes of the game with a barrage of attacks and with 15 minutes remaining, clawed one back. Grant Aidoo-Nash was the man on hand to send a deft finish past the Bedford goalkeeper, who had impressed throughout.

However, with time running out, Wapping were left frustrated as they failed to snatch an equaliser.

Captain Oliver Cooper said: “It’s a big lesson for us today that we have to perform for the full 70 minutes in the top division and you can’t become overconfident at any stage in a match. We were fantastic for the last 25 minutes but we left ourselves a lot of to do, which we are disappointed about.”

Next up for Wapping is trip to Cambridge City on Saturday.

Wapping ladies conceded a last-minute goal as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at top-of-the-table Cambridge City. An encouraging start was eventually undone when Cambridge put together a string of passes through the middle of the pitch before firing a shot home from the top of the ‘D’ to take the lead.

Refocused and reinvigorated after half-time, Wapping soon pulled level when a neat move saw the ball cut back across the ‘D’, where the waiting Kate Silbermann slotted home to equalise for the visitors.

Cambridge were not content with a draw though and continued to press. That drive paid dividends, when in the final minutes, the hosts bundled home the winner following a goal-mouth scramble.

“We put out an impressive performance against a top-of-the-table side, this is very encouraging going forward,” said captain Lucy Todd.
