Waltham Abbey scored a late winner against ten-man Ware to secure a 1-0 win on Tuesday night in Isthmian Division One North.

The game was heading towards a stalemate until the 74th-minute dismissal of Ware's Lee White.

With 16 minutes to force a winner, Paul Wickenden’s side secured all three points with six minutes to spare as Darren Williams grabbed the winner.

The Abbotts were denied victory by a late equaliser against Thurrock on Saturday.

Charlie Stimson thought he had opened the scoring for Thurrock inside ten minutes when he lobbed Abbotts goalkeeper Ronnie Yates.

Defender Simon King helped shepherd the ball over the line but, despite not touching it, he was deemed to have interfered with play and the goal was disallowed for offside.

Visiting Thurrock had the best of the first half, but six minutes after the break, they were made to pay for their profligacy when Jason Hallett gave the Abbotts the lead direct from a free-kick.

The midfielder’s effort pierced the visitors’ wall and found its way past Thurrock stopper Andy Walker to open the scoring.

However, the Fleet snatched a share of the spoils 11 minutes from time when former Barnet striker Stimson netted.

Redbridge are just a point and a place above the relegation zone after losing 1-0 to Needham Market on Tuesday.

The only goal of the game came 12 minutes from time when Adam Mills struck for the visitors.

On Saturday, Dave Ross' side were sunk by two second-half strikes in a 2-0 defeat against AFC Sudbury.

Ryan Henshaw nodded home the first midway through the second period, he lobbed the ball over Redbridge keeper Mark Parker.

A second followed late on when Sam Clarke sealed the win with a stunning effort from distance.

The goal was initially ruled out as the linesman had deemed a Sudbury player to be offside but, after extended discussions between the officials, the goal was allowed to stand.

Waltham Forest extended their winning run to eight Essex Senior League fixtures by beating 3-1.

Solomon Ofori netted either side of Hassana Traore to make sure of the points.
