New Leyton Orient boss Fabio Liverani has asked not to be judged by Orient supporters immediately, insisting he needs a month to assess the team.

Liverani, 38, succeeded Mauro Milanese as the club's fourth manager of the season earlier today, with Milanese stepping back into his previous role as sporting director.

The former Italy international's only managerial experience was a seven-game spell as Genoa boss, during which he won only one match before being sacked.

Speaking to the club's website, Liverani asked for time: "Obviously I want to feel the support of the supporters. Their supports needs to be passionate and before I am judged to let me work a bit.

"It is difficult if you are not starting the season to choose the players and system you like and I know I need to make a simple decision to see the quality of the players and to play the system that is useful for the team at the moment.

"I think this season we will try to be the best with the players we have and the system we are playing in the simplest way possible," added Liverani.

He continued: "I will have one month to watch the team and to see what is needed more and I believe the team was very close to the Championship last season. I need one month to see what going on."

Liverani has brought two members of staff with him from Genoa: assistant manager Marcello Donatelli and fitness coach Maurizio Cantarelli and believes a large backroom staff is important for a manager.

"I believe the staff should be bigger because for the gaffer it is important to have a big staff to create results.

"I wanted to bring my own staff I have always had in Italy before to create a mixed group to achieve the maximum we can."

Asked about his knowledge of English football, he replied: "I don't know League One very well but of course I liked watching English football from Italy. Now I think it should be important to see if we can join something about Italian football or just to follow the English [style of] football because every country has got a style."
