A 93rd-minute equaliser from Waltham Abbey’s Darren Williams ensured a 2-2 draw for the Abbotts against his former club Cheshunt on Boxing Day.

Cheshunt took the lead after 15 minutes when Ben Andreos finished with a smart turn and rasping shot after a good passing move by the hosts.

The Ambers’ advantage was doubled nine minutes before half time when Lewis Payne deflected Josh Fagbohun’s drive beyond Abbotts goalkeeper James May.

Abbey began the fightback after 11 second-half minutes when Jon Docker fired a dipping low shot beyond home goalkeeper James Gilbert.

Allen Bossman and Fagbohun both went close for the hosts, who continued to carve out chances in an attempt to restore their two-goal lead.

In the third minute of injury-time, the Abbotts drew level when a free-kick found its way to former Cheshunt player Williams, who forced home from close range.

The Abbotts host Harlow Town on New Year’s Day before travelling to Burnham Ramblers on Saturday.

Redbridge saw their home fixture with Barkingside on Saturday postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The Motormen travel to Brentwood Town on New Year’s Day before hosting Soham Town Rangers 48 hours later.

In the Essex Senior League, Waltham Forest’s home fixture with Hullbridge Sports also fell foul of the weather. The Stags are at home to Barking on Saturday.
