West Ham United are targeting Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez but will have to beat off competition from AC Milan, according to the Daily Mail.
The 27-year-old midfielder has only made six La Liga starts for Atleti this term and could be allowed to leave the club on loan in the January transfer window.
Sam Allardyce had originally plotted to sign the Spanish international on loan as a direct replacement for Alex Song, who had appeared to be on his way to the African Cup of Nations with Cameroon.
However despite Song's retirement from international duty, the former Mallorca and Celta de Vigo loanee is still on Allardyce's radar this January.
The Hammers will have to see off the interest of Italian giants AC Milan though, with the Rossoneri also keen on a short-term deal for the two-cap Spaniard.
