Old Loughtonians girls Under-16s were victorious at the Indoor Hockey UK competition at the weekend.

Playing together for the first time, the girls exceeded all expectations to finish as winners.

The weeekend started with a 4-0 win against an inexperienced Havering side. Annie Redmond (2), Emma Sharp and Melissa Brooks were all on target before Alice Melvin struck a late winners against National finalists Ipswich.

Chelmsford lay in wait in the final, having already dispatched with Harleston Magpies - themselves National finalists - to reach the final shoot-out.

Goals from Redmond, Sharp and Caitlin Black sealed the win for the girls.

On Saturday the Under-12 boys finished fifth place overall at the Indoorhockey.co.uk tournament at the Brentwood Centre.

Wins over Chelmsford and Hertford in their first two fixtures provided the ideal start before a draw with Reading and a defeat by Saffron Waldon to complete the group stages.

Loughts and Reading were left to face off for the third and final spot in round two, with Loughts just edged out after drawing.

There was success for the Under-10s, who finished as winners by virtue of goal difference.

Loughts opened with a 1-1 draw against Canterbury before picking up an impressive five wins on the spin, scoring 30 and conceding just two.

Canterbury were hot on Loughts' tails but finished with an inferior goal difference by one, handing Loughts the title.
