Old Loughtonians are fourth following the second round of the National Indoor Division One Championships at the University of West England at the weekend.

With four games spread over Saturday and Sunday, the weekend began with a 4-2 defeat against a well-organised Brooklands side.

Andrew MacGregor and James Southgate netted for Loughts, who were left to rue four penalty corners which were not converted.

Loughts allowed second opponents Doncaster to race into a two-goal lead. Tom Wilson halved the deficit, only for Doncaster to open up a 3-1 advantage.

However two goals in as many minutes from Southgate drew Loughts level at three apiece. MacGregor bagged again before Doncaster hauled themselves back into the contest from a penalty corner.

In the dying seconds Loughts snatched the points though, Southgate completing his hat-trick before making it 6-4.

Sunday began with a dramatic 11-goal thriller against Wimbledon; Loughts pegging back their opposition each time they conceded.

However a last-gasp penalty corner undid the good work of Tom Watson (2), Southgate, Wilson and Joe Nelmes.

The final game of the weekend saw Loughts pick up their second win, triumphing 8-7 over Bournville.

Ed Mortimer, Southgate and Watson saw Loughts claim a three-goal lead before their opponents hit five without reply.

Southgate scored three more and Conor Caplan got in on the act before a late winner sealed an 8-7 victory.

League leaders Wapping fended off the threat of third-placed Chelmsford on Saturday with a 4-1 win in the East Premier ‘A’ Division.

Just three points separated the two sides prior to the game, but Wapping came away with a comprehensive victory to strengthen their position at the summit.

From the first whistle Wapping took the initiative, controlling possession and territory with incisive passing. Good close control from Rob Pryce and Ashton forced a short corner for Wapping after ten minutes from which Grant Aidoo-Nash broke the deadlock from close range after an improvised routine.

And the east Londoners doubled their lead soon after. Oliver Salvesen drove past his marker on the left wing and crossed to Aidoo-Nash. After the Chelmsford goalkeeper’s initial save, Salvesen pounced to slot the ball into goal from close range.

Aidoo-Nash then helped himself to a second when he finished off a superb solo run to give Wapping a 3-0 half-time lead.

Mark Bennett was lost to injury after the restart, having collided with a teammate, resulting in a fractured collar bone and an expected six-week recovery period.

With ten minutes to go, Wapping scored a fourth as Matt Hyden dribbled calmly past his marker and the Chelmsford goalkeeper before slotting into an empty net.

The visitors then forced a consolation goal in the final minutes from the second phase of a short corner.

Wapping ladies drew 1-1 with relegation rivals Canterbury Seconds, with both sides level on points prior to the start of their game.

Canterbury started strongly and opened the scoring after just three minutes.

An improved second-half performance from Wapping yielded a deserved equaliser; Fiodhna Burke netting after an impressive passing move which saw four midfielders involved.
