Old Loughtonians men secured their National Indoor Division One status for next season after finishing sixth overall at the weekend.

Defeats against Southgate and Loughborough on Saturday left Loughts with a lot of work to be done ahead of the second day.

But a 6-2 win over Harleston Magpies and a 5-5 draw with Cannock on Sunday ensured they will compete in Division One again next term.

Old Loughtonians ladies resumed their outdoor season on Saturday by playing out a creditable 0-0 draw with Canterbury.

With only 11 players available, Loughts were up against it from the off but refused to be overwhelmed and defended resolutely.

Loughts gradually began to feel their way into the contest but were unable to turn possession into presentable goal-scoring chances.

Wapping men's Seconds enjoyed a back-to-back victories over Harpenden in a double-header across Saturday and Sunday.

The first game ended in a 3-1 victory for Wapping, who went closest early on when Ed Fry brought a good save out the Harpenden goalkeeper. Ray Paulson lashed the subsequent rebound high and wide.

Wapping did take the lead halfway through the first period when Heye Scheftel scored from a well-rehearsed short-corner routine.

Though 1-0 up, Wapping continued to make mistakes at the top of their own 'D'. Harpenden capitalised on one such error by playing a fantastic ball in across the 'D', which was then deflected into the net in front of helpless Wapping goalkeper Joe Trickett.

Following the restart, Jason Black played an inch-perfect ball into the path of Fry who slotted it past the goalkeeper from close range.

Wapping had a shout for a penalty stroke turned down as Michael Bolle desperately tried to bundle the ball over the line, before Paulson helped himself to a second from a short corner.

Sunday saw a return trip to Hertford for the men's Seconds, who picked up a 4-2 win after initially surrendering a two-goal lead.

New signing David Guy came closest to opening the scoring but it was Fry who finally worked his way into enough space on the left-hand side of the 'D' to calmly flick the ball beyond the approaching goalkeeper.

Wapping’s second goal came from an easy ball which was popped out to Ryan D’Souza, standing unmarked in front of an open goal, pouncing to make it 2-0.

A harsh challenge outside the Wapping 'D' afforded Hertford a penalty which the hosts duly converted before pulling back a second goal, capitalising on a mis-controlled aerial pass at the top of the 'D'.

Paulson got his second goal of the weekend from another good penalty corner and newcomer Guy marked his debut by deflecting in a reverse stick cross from Bolle to complete the win.

Coach Steve Turner said: "We are very pleased to pick up six points this weekend. We have had a few changes in personnel with players leaving and joining over the Christmas break. It was pleasing to see the new guys do well.

"Sitting top of the league, teams raise their game against us and both oppositions this week played above their league position. We battled hard and in the end deserved to pick up the wins."

Wapping Ladies came up short against West Herts, going down 4-0 despite a spirited showing.
