Crostyx started 2015 with a 5-2 win over Chelmsford Seconds on Saturday

The game got off to a cautious start, with both teams clearly feeling the effect of the cold weather and the first competitive game in six weeks.

After ten minutes, Crostyx were benefitting from most of the possession and were shifting the ball around the pitch well, making some teasing runs behind the defensive line on both flanks.

A foul from Chelmsford a few minutes later saw Crostyx being awarded the first penalty corner of the game and after a well-worked routine, Tim Watson put Crostyx ahead with a powerful drag flick to the bottom left hand corner.

Clearly spurred on by this early goal, Chelmsford themselves won a short corner and managed to take the score level halfway through the first half.

Unperturbed by this quick equaliser, Crostyx started to dictate the game claiming 50-50 balls and pressing the Chelmsford defence hard.

A few minutes from half time and a typically skilful run from Immy Jabbal resulted in a fantastic flick, giving Crostyx the lead at half time. 2-1.

Having been in similar position before, Crostyx were upbeat but cautious about their narrow margin going into the second half.

Early in the second half, Crostyx were awarded another short corner which was again excellently put away by Watson, extending their lead to 3-1.

This joy was short lived as within minutes the Chelmsford attack were able to claw back another goal taking the score line to 3-2. 

A few silky passes out of defence and the ball was up the left flank when a cross from Crostyx was fired into the ‘D’ reaching the end Chris Campbell’s stick and the back of the Chelmsford goal to make it 4-1.

Then, from nowhere came a daring run from young gun Laurence Budd down the right flank; throwing the ball from left-to-right. The Chelmsford defence really did stand no chance. He finally reached the ‘D’ and with only the goal in his sights, he pulled the trigger firing a rocket of a shot into the bottom left hand corner of the goal.
