Woodford Green with Essex Ladies’ Sam Watts has reached the top of the 2015 200m indoor world rankings.

Watts, who is currently studying in Texas, America, was racing for Texas Christian University when he recorded a personal best time of 20.69 over 200m.

The time is enough to put Watts tenth on the UK all-time indoor list and means, for the time being at least, he is ranked number one in the world.

Racing in Woodford over Christmas, Watts had given an indication of the form he was in by running 46.6 relay split time before setting a personal best of 6.84 in the 60m in Alburquerque, New Mexico, at the weekend.

Elsewhere, despite suffering from a back problem, Robert Wolski won the high jump at the London Indoor Games at Lee Valley on Saturday, clearing 2.10m and just falling short of 2.15m.

Kitty Eleyae’s only valid leap, 5.75m was enough to see her win the high jump, whilst Tosin Oke was victorious in the triple jump (16.60m).

On Sunday, Olumide Ogunseitan raced over 60m, and was just a touch slower than his recent personal best with 6.95. Stefan Redmond recorded a time of 7.21, which was a personal best.

US-Based Jordan Donnelly was in Europe for work last week and raced in Munich over 800m, opening his season with a second-place finish in a time of 1.53.15. Meanwhile, Tim Abeyie was in action in Kirchberg, Luxembourg, and recorded a time of 6.89 over 60m.

In his final year at Birmingham University before heading to California on an athletics scholarship, Ed Shepherd placed 24th in the high-quality British Universities Cross Country Championships, helping Birmingham to victory in the team event.

Martyn Cryer placed third in the Watford Half Marathon on Sunday in a time of 71.07.
