Ronnie O’Sullivan insists he is not concerned with reclaiming the world No.1 spot after cruising through the first round of the German Masters in Berlin.

O’Sullivan’s opponent, Mark Davis, notched the first frame with a break of 110 before ‘The Rocket’ reeled off five on the trot to complete a 5-1 triumph at the Tempodrom.

The Chigwell potter is currently ranked No.3 in the world but with world No.1 Ding Junhui suffering a first-round exit in Berlin, he can claim the top spot with a deep run in Germany this week.

But O'Sullivan is adamant he is more interested in clinching a third German Masters title to go with his 2012 and 1996, when the tournament was known as the German Open, trophies.

“I love playing in Germany, the venue is great, the fans are great and it’s a really appreciative crowd,” said O’Sullivan.

“So I always want to put on a good show for them and even if I’m not putting on a show, they understand that snooker is a difficult game and you can’t always pot balls all the time.

“I’d love to win this tournament and I’d love to be here on the final weekend.

“The last three or four years I’ve played really well and I just want that to continue for as long as it can.

“I’m not really thinking about being world No.1 – I’m just enjoying my snooker.”

It has been a stellar season for O’Sullivan as he has recorded victories at the UK Championship and Champion of Champions event.

Up next in Berlin for ‘The Rocket’ is veteran potter Joe Perry on Friday, himself in good form after winning the Xuzhou Open in China a fortnight ago.

The pair had a memorable battle in the World Championship last year, with O’Sullivan coming from 11-9 down to win 13-11, and the 39-year-old insists there is no danger of him underestimating Perry in Friday's contest.

“Joe should have won the match we had at the Crucible and he has had a good season this year,” added O’Sullivan.

“He won the PTC event in Asia, he’s on good form and everyone you play these days is on form, so if you don’t bring your A-game to the table then you’ll get beaten.”
