Redbridge recorded a much-needed win and their first clean sheet since September as they beat Soham Town Rangers 2-0 on Tuesday.

The Motormen had lost their last three in the Isthmian Division One North but claimed a vital win in their battle against relegation.

Goals from Gavin Cockman and Chinedu McKenzie sealed the win, just Redbridge’s third of 2015, lifting them up to to 20th in the table.

Three days earlier Redbridge had failed to stop the rot as they conceded late to lose 3-2 against Maldon & Tiptree.

Visitors Redbridge almost took the lead as early as the sixth minute when new signing Kacey Adams headed narrowly wide after connecting with goalkeeper Mark Parker’s long free kick.

Vinny Murphy then fired a free kick straight at Maldon & Tiptree goalkeeper Darren Behcet as the Motormen made a bright start.

The hosts went close when Mason Bloomfield fired in a low effort which tested Parker, before taking an 18th-minute lead.

Alberto Pino was adjudged to have been brought down by goalkeeper Parker and from the resulting spot-kick, Nathan Koranteng confidently dispatched for the Jammers.

Redbridge responded strongly though, with Behcet twice called upon. Carlos Espirito-Santo drilled narrowly over the angle of bar and posted as Redbridge kept up the pressure.

An equaliser arrived after half-an-hour when Adams’ strong run allowed him to evade two challenges and fire into the roof of the net.

The Jammers retook the lead just before half time when Koranteng’s free kick was cleared to the edge of the 18-yard box where the waiting Mitch Hunter picked out Ruddock Yala to fire home from close range.

After the break, Gavin Greenfield almost sent a header past Behcet, who had to be alert to tip the effort to safety.

Redbridge did beat the Jammers goalkeeper shortly after though, Murphy driving home from distance with the aid of a deflection to make it 2-2.

The two sides continued to trade chances, with Alex Andrews going close for Maldon & Tiptree, whilst Bostry Bansende shot wide from a free kick.

Behcet then had to be repel two efforts from Adams as the Motormen turned the screw.

But there was a late twist as the home side snatched all three points when Alex Anderson struck a free kick beyond Parker.

Redbridge host Cray Wanderers on Saturday before travelling to Aveley on Monday.

A brace from Jason Hallett was not enough to prevent Waltham Abbey slipping to a 3-2 defeat against Brentwood Town on Saturday.

Hallett struck after 13 minutes to put the visitors ahead, only for Sam Bantwick to level shortly before the half-an-hour mark.

Tom Richardson and Bantwick them netted within ten minutes of one another to take the contest away from the Abbotts.

Hallett did pull one back with three minutes remaining but it was not enough to salvage anything.

Thirteenth-place Abbey host Great Wakering Rovers on Saturday before Soham Town Rangers visit on Tuesday.

In the Essex Senior League, Waltham Forest were crushed 6-1 by Barking on Saturday. Hassana Traore got the Stags’ goal.
