Leytonstone booked their place in the final of the Inner London Football League Cup final for the first time in three years by beating West End 3-2 in their semi-final on Sunday.

However, Leytonstone made far from the ideal start, falling behind after just five minutes from a corner.

The Lemons soon equalised through Arshad Coowar, who picked his spot from 25 yards and rifled home to level.

And Leytonstone could have taken a lead into the break but Bradley Williams saw his close-range effort skim the crossbar on its way over.

The second period followed a similar pattern to the first, with West End re-taking the lead via an acrobatic effort.

Substitute Charles Gyamfi wasted little time in pulling the Lemons level. After winning a penalty following a mazy dribble into the 18-yard box, he got up to tuck home the resulting spot kick.

With the game looking set for penalties, Leytonstone struck a dramatic winner. From a Kevin Rabey goal kick, Ahmed Arab sprinted down the left, cut inside and fired low into the bottom corner to settle the contest.

Reserve team boss Nazim Mahmood enthused: "It’s a massive turnaround for us all and this was a really hard-fought game between two teams going at it head-to-head, both wanting to win.

"The whole team fought tooth and nail and that's the attitude you need to have in these cup competitions - tough and brave, with ability and desire. You need all of those aspects to deliver.

"We wouldn’t have been playing in this semi-final if it hadn’t been for Zulqi Khan who laid the platform for us in the early rounds his input in those games and the goals scored by him played a major factor in us reaching the semi-final."
