Redbridge joint-boss Dave Ross insists the Motormen remain confident of staying up but is frustrated at not being able to build on victory over Soham Town Rangers.

The Isthmian Division One North side last played on February 10 when they won 2-0 at home to Soham – their first win in four league games and enough to move them out the relegation zone.

However, subsequent fixtures against Cray Wanderers and Aveley both fell foul of the weather, much to the annoyance of Ross: “It is very frustrating. We played very well against Maldon & Tiptree and arguably did not deserve to lose.

“It would have been good to play Cray Wanderers before their new manager (Tommy Warrilow) could get in there, restructure things and make an impact, because I am sure he will.”

He added: “Games in hand mean nothing at this stage, they are nice to have, but points on the board are all that count. It is as simple as that.”

Despite not playing for nine days, Redbridge are still clear of the relegation zone and Ross says both he and joint-manager Ricky Eaton remain confident of staying in the Isthmian next season.

“It is something Ricky and I felt confident we could do at the start of the season and still do now. We have got the players to keep them in the league. But if things are not going well, Ricky and I have always said we would make changes if necessary and bring players in.

“We have tried to be loyal to players we have had since the start of this season or from last year, though.”

Postponements can wreak havoc for non-league sides when the fixture list begins to get congested due to bad weather but Ross has applauded the work of the Isthmian League in avoiding such issues so far.

He explained: “It is not looking too bad really because we have not got that many midweek games, it will only be if they continue to get postponed that it becomes a problem. And that is because they started the season early.

“We played a lot of games in the first half of the season and that is the right way of doing it.”

Redbridge will hope to resume their league campaign on Saturday when they make the trip to eighth-placed Thurrock.

Elsewhere in the Isthmian Division One North, Waltham Abbey saw their clash with Great Wakering Rovers postponed on Saturday.

Tuesday’s home tie with Soham Town Ranger was also called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Paul Wickenden’s side travel to Cray Wanderers on Saturday before making the trip to Heybridge Swifts on Tuesday.

In the Essex Senior League, Waltham Forest have not played since February 7, with Saturday's tie at Sporting Bengal United postponed.

The Stags will attempt to resume their league schedule at Greenhouse London Saturday.

Stags supporter Charlie Ward is appealing for help compiling a book documenting his 50 years supporting the club.
