Wapping Seconds have won the East Division Two South with three games to spare after beating West Herts 4-2 on Saturday.

Reflecting on his side’s success, head coach Steven Turner said: “When we had one point from the first three games, you obviously do have doubts. However, the boys showed their metal with a 12-game winning streak and I’m very proud of their efforts.”

And captain Charlie Wright added: “We had a very clear objective today and did a great job. The lads deserve all the plaudits they get, and we will now aim to collect a record points total for this league before focusing on next season.”

One of the strengths of Wapping’s play this season has been their ability to take the chances they create and Saturday was no different; Heye Scheftel crashing a ball into the path of Michael Bolle to tuck home from the top of the ‘D’.

The Dutchman then doubled the visitors’ lead before Joe Carpenter was sin-binned for a professional foul. The Maroons rode out their stint with ten men though, and Bolle completed his hat-trick shortly after half time.

Alex White got the fourth after West Herts had pulled one back from a short corner. The home side snuck another effort but could not take the shine off of promotion for Wapping.

Old Loughtonians had a mixed weekend in their battle against the drop in Conference East, drawing 2-2 with Richmond and losing 3-2 to Bromley & Beckenham.

The weekend began with a draw against Richmond on Saturday, secured thanks to last-gasp goals from Stuart Hardy and James Jewell.

Loughts had fallen 2-0 behind in the first half but pulled their first back from a penalty corner before securing a point from the restart from a short corner.

Twenty-four hours later Loughts started better, going 1-0 up via Conor Caplan. However, Bromley equalised with a penalty flick.

Loughts started the second period the stronger and retook the lead thanks to an Andrew MacGregor effort. But Bromley fought back and struck twice to seal the win.

Loughts ladies were 2-1 winners away at Saffron Walden thanks to Danni Haynes and Heidi Barber goals.

Wapping Firsts kept up their own Eastern Premier Division A promotion hopes with a 4-0 win over Cambridge City.

The Maroons sit top, a point clear of Cambridge University with three games remaining.

Ollie Salvesan put Wapping ahead midway through the first half and the lead was doubled after the restart via Ollie Davies.

A third arrived 15 minutes before the end as Grant Aidoo-Nash deflected home a Tom Sibley cross before Felix Styles completed the victory.

Wapping ladies picked up a vital win in their battle against relegation from the East Women’s League Premier, beating basement dwellers Ipswich Seconds 1-0.

Fiodhna Burke scored the decisive goal, which leaves Wapping fourth from bottom but only a point ahead of second-bottom Broxbourne.

Crostyx ladies played out a goalless draw against Brentwood in the Eastern Women’s League Division One South, leaving them bottom of the pile.

Styx Seconds were narrowly beaten, 1-0 at Witham, and sit tenth in the Essex Division One.
