Old Loughtonians men will head into the final game of the National League Conference East season knowing they must win after a 4-1 loss to Oxted.

Defeat saw Loughts sink to the bottom of the standings, two points from safety, and with a trip to third-placed Cambridge City at the weekend, they will be up against it.

They had started the better of the two teams but were made to pay for their failure to covert their chances. Oxted imploded and were reduced to eight men but still managed to take the lead before the break.

Although James Jewell got one back for Loughts at 3-0 down, visitors Oxted sealed the points with relative ease.

Loughts ladies were also beaten, going down 2-1 against Bromley & Beckenham in a fiercely-contested encounter.

Bromley took the lead with a long pass into the ‘D’ which was converted from close range before a second followed from a penalty corner.

However, the response by Loughts was strong and Heidi Barber got one back at the beginning of the second period when she deflected home Danni Haynes’ corner.

Loughts huffed and puffed for the final 15 minutes but could not force home an equaliser.

Wapping showed no mercy as they crushed already-relegated Wisbech 5-1 on Saturday to keep their place at the summit of the East Premier Division ‘A’.

The Maroons took a three-goal lead into half time, with captain Oliver Cooper finishing clinically from a wide angle, Felix Styles converting a short corner and Ben Gallagher scoring from a fine reverse stick finish.

In the second period man-of-the-match Cooper scored his second from close range and James Fanger finished off a good team move.

The visitors played well but poor finishing and short corner struggles on a sticky pitch meant that the east London team were disappointed not to have scored more goals.

In the final minutes and with the game petering out, Wisbech scored a consolation goal from a short corner rebound.

Wapping remain top but only three points separate the top four with two games to go. They travel to second-placed Cambridge University on Saturday in a pivotal clash.

Wapping ladies were held to a goalless draw against Norwich Dragons in an encounter they could ill-afford to lose.

The ladies enjoyed the better chances after the break but could not find a way past the Norwich goalkeeper.
