Redbridge came back down to earth with a bump on Tuesday night after losing 1-0 at home to second-bottom Cray Wanderers in the Isthmian Division One North.

Dave Ross and Ricky Eaton's side were unable to build on Saturday's win over Tilbury and despite a bright start, failed to record back-to-back wins.

The decisive goal arrived in the 36th minute, Chris Piper following in after Alex Teniola had struck the post for the visitors.

Patrick Damali had the Motormen's best chance but could not find a way past Cray stopper Luke Colquhouen.

The Motormen had already taken a sizeable step towards safety on Saturday when they won 2-1 at home to Tilbury.

A brace from Joe Gent did the damage, moving Redbridge up to 19th.

Gent opened the scoring after 12 minutes - atoning for an earlier miss - when he followed in after a shot from Abs Thompson struck the visitors' crossbar.

Tilbury came agonizingly close to drawing level when Tom Wood's curling effort was agilely tipped around the post by home goalkeeper Mark Parker.

And the visitors were awarded a penalty but Neil Richmond's kick was weak and Parker pushed over to preserve the home side's slender advantage.

Tilbury were made to pay for that miss soon after 37 minutes when a poor clearance fell at the feet of Gent to curl beyond keeper Lamar Johnson to double up.

However, there was still time for the Dockers to set up a tense finish when substitute Jake Pooley netted in the 90th minute.

Next up for the Motormen is a trip to Thamesmead Town on Saturday. A visit to Aveley follows on Monday night.

Waltham Abbey also picked up maximum points on Saturday, beating Wroxham 2-1 to move up to 13th place.

The home side took the lead after ten minutes when Jason Hallett continued his hot streak to open the scoring.

Twelve minutes later the Abbotts went further in front as Sean Chaney nodded a John Docker corner home from point-blank range to make it 2-0.

An own goal from Matt Bedford midway through the second period saw Wroxham halve the deficit but Paul Wickenden's men held firm for all three points.

Abbey travel to Needham Market on Saturday before hosting Great Wakering Rovers on Tuesday.

In the Essex Senior League, Waltham Forest lost 3-1 at Bowers & Pitsea.

Mekki Moussa levelled for the Stags before two second-half strikes saw Bowers claim the points.

Newham United visit Wadham Lodge on Saturday.
