WITH Ladbrokes.com Arc ante-post favourites Jazz Hurricane and Zigzag Dutchy looking far from impressive in the opening heats of the competition on Tuesday it was left to the home brigade to catch the eye.

Five Stow raiders led the way in the first eight eliminators of this £13,000 event, with Seamus Cahill's Pork Pie and Mark Wallis' Roswell Starship setting the early standard of the home dogs.

Cahill's charge got the ball rolling in heat one with a three and a half length victory that up staged Ernest Gaskin's Ronnies Earner, while also setting a very fast 29.24secs on the night. Securing the third qualifying spot was Newtown Daylami.

Mick Puzey's Too Risky grabbed another home victory in heat two, after securing a two lengths win over Blonde Buster and Astute Gift in 29.51secs.

Ashley Minett's Sheff-ield raider Bigbadassa-ssian took the next eliminator from Blonde Sheriff and Exclusive Lee.

Romford Puppy Cup winner Roswell Starship got the home runners back to winning ways with an impressive 29.28secs in a very competitive fourth heat, to withstand the challenge of Rough Region and Raging Jack.

Heats five and six went the way of Risk Related and Lenson Tearaway respectively, with Back By Daylight, Legal Major, Debbies Choice and Corleones Flash also extending their stay in the competition.

Home trainer Paul Garland's Mystical Haka caused another upset on the night when he beat the much fancied Zigzag Dutchy in the seventh eliminator, with a half a length success in 29.37secs. Alison Ingram's Vipar Totti secured the final qualifying berth.

Walthamstow's leading handler Wallis' capped a great evening, when his Armies Plan headed home the final heat from Blonde Zak and Jazz Hurricane, who also made it through to the second round on Saturday.

Meanwhile Imperial Kennel's trainer Wallis' fantastic start to the season continued last week, when his Questhouse Sash won the £3,000 Green King IPA Cup at Harlow.
