On Saturday Matthew Chanda picked up his fourth win since an attack in 2009 which left him facing the prospect of not being able to fight again.
The 28-year-old (4-0), was the victim of an unprovoked assault six years ago which left him with a fractured skull and deaf in one ear.
However, after being cleared by the British Boxing Board of Control and having signed with promoter Steve Goodwin, the Chingford-based super bantamweight overcame Ricky Leach (0-3-1) on points at York Hall on Saturday night.
“It means more to me because I have had it taken away,” admitted Chanda, who was born in Zambia. “It makes me try harder and gives me that extra drive.
"When I am tired or feel I can’t train I just think ‘I have been given a second chance to get through’ and it spurs me on.”
