Woodford Green with Essex Ladies’ Joseph Dewar won silver at the European Junior Championships in Sweden on Friday.

Day two of the championships in Eskilstuna saw Dewar narrowly miss out on gold to Great Britain’s Ojie Edoburun, a time of 10.46 just shy of the 10.36 set by the eventual winner.

Dewar had qualified in the second fastest time for the final after comfortably winning both his heat and semi-final on Thursday in times of 10.47 secs (+1.2) and 10.54 secs (-1.8).

On Sunday, HCA member Jack Lawrie finished fourth in the final of the 400m hurdles, agonisingly missing out on the medals.

A time of 52.09 saw Britain’s Lawrie beaten by Austrian Dominik Hufnagl in a time of 51.74.

Lawrie had qualified for the final by scooping second in his semi-final on Saturday and had clinched the best time of the qualifying rounds on Friday morning with 51.91.

Dan Rowden narrowly missed out on a place in the final of the 800m, despite finishing third in Saturday’s semi-finals.

A time of 1.52.31 was not enough for Rowden to qualify for Sunday’s final as one of the two best runners-up in the three semi-final heats. He had won Friday’s fifth qualifying heat in 1.51.35 to advance.
