Waltham Abbey enjoyed a 3-2 win over Oxhey Jets ahead of new boss Martin Hayes’ first competitive match in charge this Saturday.

The Abbots kick off the Isthmian Division One North season at home to Brightlingsea Regent on Saturday but first rounded off pre-season with a fourth win from six.

A 3-2 win over Spartan South Midlands Premier Division side Oxhey Jets sends Abbey into the new campaign off the back of consecutive wins.

Redbridge were victorious in their penultimate friendly of the summer, seeing off Newbury Forest 2-0. The Motormen travel to Southend Manor tonight before starting the new season at home to Witham Town.

Essex Senior League outfit Waltham Forest collected their second pre-season win and first clean sheet as they cruised to a 2-0 win over an Enfield Town XI.

Pulemny Martin gave the Stags a fortuitous lead, as some rather calamitous Enfield defending presented him with an open goal from no more than two yards.

After half time, one became two as Mo Mahmoud fed Abisola Balogun who slotted the ball past the Enfield goalkeeper into the far corner.

In a rather less eventful game, ESL new-boys Wadham Lodge were held to a 0-0 draw by the London Lions at the Macabi Sports Club.

Wadham coach Neil Day was disappointed with the result and commented: “There was yet another mixture of good and bad signs which has probably been the hallmark of our pre-season.

“Although we didn't produce the free flowing football we know we're capable of, we did defend with purpose and put our bodies on the line in our own penalty box which was good to see.”
