Redbridge’s fine start to the new season continued apace on Saturday as they moved into fourth position in the Isthmian Division One North with a 3-1 win at Brightlingsea Regent.

Dave Ross and Ricky Eaton’s men has so far defied any expectations they would struggle again and with seven points from their first three games, the Motormen are among the division’s early pace-setters.

After scoring twice in the opening-day win over Witham Town, Michael Ogboin hit a brace against the R’s to wrap up a second win from three for the Motormen.

The home side took the lead after 13 minutes as Josh Mayhew fired past Redbridge stopper Jack Avery.

The Redbridge keeper was required to pull off several good stops to deny the R’s, with Lewis Francis, Daniel Jones and Ogboin always retaining a threat for the Motormen.

That threat eventually came good when Jones picked up Ogboin’s pass and slotted past R’s goalkeeper Andrew Plummer to level in the 61st minute.

Just a minute later Redbridge went in front when Plummer could only parry into the path of Ogboin, who made no mistake.

Brightlingsea might have equalised from a Lamell Howell free-kick soon after by Avery was on top form to push the shot over the bar.

Victory was sealed in the 71st minute when Ogboin got his second, darting through the home defence before sliding home the third.

Elsewhere in Division One North, Waltham Abbey are still winless and pointless after losing out by the odd goal in five at Aveley.

It took a 90th-minute winner from Aveley’s Dave Fallah to deny Martin Hayes’ side their second point of the campaign after the Abbotts had come from behind to draw level.

The Millers were 2-0 up inside eight minutes when Tyler Myers tucking home before Fallah got the first of his two goals.

But Abbey showed no little resilience to fight back and draw level through Jack Daveney and Matt Attard.

All their good work was undone at the death, though, as Fallah fired home to take all three points.
