Wadham Lodge coach Neil Day says the Kitchener Road side must continue to grow off the field as well as on it in their maiden Essex Senior League campaign.

A weekend of inactivity gave division's new-boys a chance to reflect on their progress so far this season.

Whilst pleased with their steady start on the pitch, coach Day was quick to point out that this season is as much about consolidation off the pitch as it is on it.

Day said: "The first two games have thrown up challenges on and off the pitch and it's been a learning curve for players and Committee members alike.

"We have got some fantastic people behind the scenes and they deserve as much credit as the players for the start we've made, we are a small club at the moment and it's been a real team effort."

Day was also quick to point out the need for the club to focus on its efforts to grow an established fan base, having seen the benefits first-hand during his time at Clapton.

"It would be great to have a few more people watching us and creating a bit of an atmosphere, Clapton do seem to have almost a monopoly on supporters at this level at the moment which is a positive thing generally but a little unhealthy for the league as club revenues are disproportionate," he explained.

"I would love a few more locals or uncommitted supporters to give us a chance and provide some backing vocally and financially to rival what's going on at The Spotted Dog," added Day.
