Woodford Green with Essex Ladies’ Tiffany Porter and Tosin Oke both progressed to their finals at the World Championships in Beijing at the weekend but could not secure medals.
Porter, competing in the 100m hurdles, finished fifth with 12.68 after winning her semi-final with 12.61.
Oke, representing Nigeria in the triple jump, jumped 16.81m to make the final cut of eight from 12, but, failing to improve on that in the final three rounds, could only finish eighth.
Porter’s sister Cindy Ofili reached the semi-final of the 100m hurdles, finishing sixth with a time of 12.91.
The club’s boys’ Under-13 relay team won gold in the County Relay Championships in Southend.
Despite only training once as a team, Tolani Alaba, Justin Asare, Sidnie Ward and Abdul Icare stormed to victory as they secured the tenth fastest time in the country of 52.60.
Third-leg runner Ward blew his opponents away to take first place from fifth and Icare finished the job to leave team manager Paul Cheal “speechless”.
