Woodford RFC have been selected by Essex County RFC to host the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour on Saturday and will hold an open day to celebrate the occasion.

The Trophy’s journey throughout the UK and Ireland has been engaging fans and giving them the opportunity to build unforgettable memories as part of their own Rugby World Cup 2015 story.

The continuous 100-day tour, which is nearing the end of its journey with just over two weeks to go until the World Cup kicks off, has seen over 300 events take place and has created hundreds of opportunities for fans to see the famous Webb Ellis Cup in person.

The club aims to share the experience with local schools, colleges, universities and other rugby clubs and every club in west Essex and east London will be asked to send one minis and one youth player to have their photo taken with the trophy.

The open day, which is being held at Woodford RFC on Saturday 5 between 12pm and 12am, will also see the first team take on Upper Clapton at 12:15pm, the Under-14s face Devenant School at 2:30pm and the minis play a series of demonstration matches at 3:30pm.

There will also be the chance to try out rugby and take part in competitions throughout the day. The longest drop goal, tug of war and space hopper races are just a few of the different activities to be taking part in.

Two licensed bars will be there to provide beverages while there will also be a food stall.

People are being encouraged to arrive between the hours of 5pm and 8pm in order to get a photograph taken with the Webb Ellis Cup.
