Redbridge’s bright start in Isthmian Division One North is well and truly over after they went down 5-0 at home to Dereham Town – the Motormen’s sixth straight defeat in all competitions.

After starting the season with two wins and a draw, Dave Ross and Ricky Eaton’s side have tumbled down the league standings and are now 17th after seven games.

Visitors Dereham made the brighter start of the two sides and went close early on through Lewis Butcher before Rhys Logan volleyed home the opener from the edge of the penalty area.

It should have been two soon after when goalkeeper Jack Avery cleared straight to Ryan Crisp but he atoned for the error with a smart stop.

Yet Redbridge might have pulled one back when Jane Anema’s miscued clearance almost dropped into his own net, goalkeeper Will Viner coming to the rescue.

Crisp saw an effort cleared off the line for the visitors and only the alert Avery delayed the visitors extending their lead before the break.

Joe Gent shot wide of an empty net for the Motormen before Crisp volleyed in a second goal with 20 minutes remaining.

Two soon became three when Sam Borrer worked his way into the penalty area and shot beyond Avery with ease before Luke Butcher lobbed home a fourth after coming off the bench.

Lewis Wallace completed the rout in the fourth minute of injury time. What will have been of most concern to Ross and Eaton is the fact Dereham scored four of their five goals in the final 20 minutes.

It gets no easier for the Motormen, who now travel to second-placed AFC Hornchurch on Tuesday.

Elsewhere in Division One North, Waltham Abbey picked up a welcome point at home to Thamesmead Town thanks to a goalless draw.

Martin Hayes’ men are still awaiting their first three points of the new season but picked up a point and a clean sheet as the visitors finished with ten mien.

Thamesmead were the better of the two sides for much of a drab contest but could not find a way past Anthony Page in the Abbotts’ goal.

Farai Hallam was dismissed late on for hauling down Aveyinka Cole. Abbey had their best chance with the visitors down to ten, Ellis Lentell bringing a good stop out of visiting keeper Aaron Ormand.

Abbey travel to newly-promoted Haringey Borough on Tuesday.

In the Essex Senior League, Waltham Forest were beaten 3-1 at home by Southend Manor.

Mike Sammut opened the scoring in the 50th minute for visiting Manor but Abiola Balogun drew the Stags level.

The visitors prevailed, though, thanks to a brace from Reece Fatt – the second coming from the penalty spot late on.

Forest host Tower Hamlets on Saturday.

Wadham Lodge, who did not have a fixture on Saturday due to the FA Vase, visit Tower Hamlets this evening (Monday).
