Martin Hayes' reign as Waltham Abbey boss is up-and-running at the eighth attempt after the Abbotts eked out a 2-1 win at Isthmian Division One North new-boys Haringey Borough on Tuesday night.

Winless in their first seven, the Abbotts finally picked up their first three points under the guidance of the former Arsenal and Celtic forward by beating last season's Essex Senior League champions.

Piers Wixon gave Abbey the lead after 28 minutes but it was not until six minutes from time that the points were made safe, Michael Pindy on target for the visitors.

But the final few minutes at Coles Park proved tense as Borough pulled one back almost immediately via Anthony Macdonald.

Redbridge were crushed 6-0 by AFC Hornchurch on Tuesday evening with five of the six goals coming in the second half.

The Motormen do not have a good record against the Urchins – losing by the same scoreline in the home fixture last month – and would have feared the worst when they fell behind on the stroke of half time to Joey May's goal.

But it took until George Purcell's 58th-minute strike to take the game away from the Motormen.

Tobi Joseph added a third on 68 minutes before Calvin Poku and David Knight (2) wrapped up the points with three goals in the final five minutes.

It is now seven consecutive defeats in all competitions for Redbridge.

A penalty from Steve Ellery and a second half strike from Andrea Mantovani saw Wadham Lodge come from behind to draw 2-2 at Tower Hamlets in the Essex Senior League on Monday night.

It could have been even better for Tony Ievoli’s improving side as the home side were reduced to ten men for the last quarter of the game, though.

Lodge pushed hard in the final stages but couldn’t find the elusive goal which would have put them joint top.
