Waltham Abbey pulled off a shock in the Alan Turvey Trophy on Tuesday evening, progressing past high flying AFC Hornchurch on penalties after 1-1 draw at Capershotts.

The Abbotts had looked to be in for a long night when former Wingate & Finchley striker David Knight gave the Urchins a 17th-minute lead.

However, they resisted the side third in the Isthmian Division One North standings and found an equaliser through Christian Assombalonga 12 minutes after falling behind.

It stayed that way until the end, forcing penalties to decide the winner and the Abbotts emerged victorious 4-3 from the spot with goalkeeper Jayden Purdue netting the winner.
