Wadham Lodge coach Neil Day was left infuriated by inconsistent refereeing as nine-man Lodge conceded a last gasp goal to draw 2-2 with Bowers & Pitsea in the Essex Senior League on Saturday.

Despite ending the opposition's 100 per cent record, Day was adamant inconsistent refereeing had played a major part in the game's finale.

He said: "I felt there was real inconsistency in the refereeing and that had a massive influence on the result.

"He gave us a number of soft yellow cards early doors and that should have been his benchmark for decisions.

"As the game developed their centre half was already on a yellow but stopped Charlie (Georgiou) seven times by foul means It made our two extremely harsh red cards even more unpalatable and denied us victory in the long run.

"The equalizer was questionable as the referee overruled the linesman for the throw in award when it seemed to come off a red shirt. Bowers are potent at throw ins so it put our nine men under even more pressure."

Georgiou and Seye Okunlola scored either side of Lewis Manor's goal and had Lodge 2-1 up before Bowers' late leveller via Frank Everett.

Elsewhere in the division, Waltham Forest remain winless after they went down 2-1 at home to Basildon United.

Brad Warner and Ben Sartain put the home side 2-0 up before Kubilay Akbayrak halved the deficit.
