After back-to-back wins last week Waltham Abbey came back down to earth with a crash on Saturday as an injury time strike condemned them to a 1-0 defeat at Dereham Town.

Martin Hayes’ side had picked up their first Isthmian Division One North win of the season at Haringey Borough a fortnight ago, but were beaten by a dramatic late winner in Norfolk.

The two sides cancelled one another out in a forgettable contest. The Magpies went closest in the first half through Jake Anema, whose close-range effort appeared to be handled on the line by a visiting defender.

Abbey had their first chance of note four minutes before the break, Michael Pindy gifted possession before forcing a good low stop from Will Viner.

After the break Abbey’s Tom Wood set up Adeyinka Cole to shoot from 20 yards but again Viner was equal to the effort.

Dereham replied with Lewis Butcher testing Anthony Page with a 20-yard drive before Payton Swatman tried his luck from similar range with an effort Page was more than happy to palm over his crossbar.

Just as the game looked to be petering out to a goalless draw, Luke Tuttle curled beyond Anthony Page from the edge of the penalty area to hand the home side maximum points and leave the Abbotts distraught.

Abbey travel to 14th-placed Wroxham on Saturday.

Redbridge extended their losing streak to eight consecutive league and cup matches on Saturday as they went down 5-2 at Thamesmead Town in a game which saw three dismissals.

The Mead sit fifth in Division One North and underlined their superiority by coming from behind to plunder the goals which leave the Motormen having shipped 20 times in their last four matches.

Despite that it was Redbridge who went in front after 25 minutes through Charlie Parish.

But if anything that lulled the away side into a false sense of security at Bayliss Avenue and the game turned on an eventful five minute period.

Theo Fairthweather-Johnson equalised for the Mead in the 37th minute before Tyrus Gordon-Young gave the home side the lead for the first time five minutes later.

Gordon-Young then helped himself to a second after the restart to give Redbridge a mountain to climb at 3-1 down.

Dave Ross and Ricky Eaton’s side fell further behind when in the 56th minute Aaron Jeffrey made it 4-1 to the hosts.

But Redbridge rallied and Michael Ogboin, with his fifth of the season, dragged the away side back into the contest.

However, any hope was short-lived as Vinny Murphy and Rigers Kabashi were both sent off within five minutes of each other. And those dismissals were followed by Gordon-Young being being sent for an early bath too.

All that allowed Thamesmead to snatch a fifth through Jay Porter and wrap up a comfortable win.

Redbridge travel to Cray Wanderers on Sunday after a home game against Phoenix Sports tomorrow (Tuesday).
