Chingford boxer Boy Jones Jnr feels like a “little kid at Christmas time” as he prepares for his fifth professional fight at Wembley Arena tomorrow evening.

The 18-year-old (3-0-1) is on the undercard of Frank Buglioni’s WBA World super-middleweight title fight against Fedor Chudinov whilst Bradley Skeete defends his WBO European welterweight title against Mark Thompson.

This will be the third time the super featherweight has fought at Wembley Arena but having made his debut at the O2 Arena just two months after turning 18, the venue will not faze Jones Jnr.

Indeed, it is excitement rather than nervousness which is the teenager’s predominant pre-fight emotion.

“It is like Christmas time for a little kid for me,” admitted Jones Jnr, who was at London Designer Outlet on Saturday to put on a public workout ahead of Saturday's showdown against an as yet unnamed opponent.

“That was the first time I have done a public workout and it went really well,” he said. “I signed autographs and took pictures and all that kind of stuff shows how far I have come in such a short space of time.

“It made me a feel like a proper professional boxer,” he laughed.

But on young shoulders is a wise head. Jones Jnr knows that with just 11 rounds and four professional bouts to his name he has achieved nothing yet.

“I don’t want to let any of this get to my head though,” he said.

“It is amazing how it has all happened so quickly. It is amazing how much has happened and everything has gone so well – apart from that draw [against Jamie Quinn] which was never a draw so we won’t talk about that. But if that is as bad as it’s going to get then I am pretty happy.”

Jones Jnr hopes to get out once more before the year is out but it has been quite a year for the young fighter.

“I’m 10 times the boxer I was when I started this year. I have also grown up as a person really quickly."“I’m 18 years old and although I am sometimes a bit silly and act like a kid I am mature. I have grown up and I look after my friends and family.

“I’m not someone who goes out all the time, I like to relax with my family and girlfriend or go out for some food with my coaches Dom (Negus) and Lenny (Butcher).”

Crucially though, he is developing in the ring as well as outside of it.

“The biggest thing I have learnt in the ring is you have to be patient and have to keep your composure; I have learned to stay calm.”

That patience will serve Jones Jnr well ahead of another four-round bout on Saturday. In 2016 he will look to increase that number but for now he insists he is still learning to walk before he can run.

“Once I step up it will be good to know I can go at 100 miles per hour,” said Jones Jnr. “Everyone says to me I have only done four rounds but I would like to see them go for four rounds with pads with me, they would be blowing.

“I am still a baby and you can just jump in the deep end yet.”
