A late Ilford leveller denied Wadham Lodge all three points at Cricklefields on Wednesday night leaving assistant boss Neil Day bemoaning the lack of winning mentality in the team at the moment.

Despite successive 2-2 draws against the first and third placed sides in the Essex Senior League, Day felt his side’s recent points haul could have been higher with a more ruthless approach.

He said: "That’s four draws on the bounce now and in every game there has been moments when we were totally in the ascendency but didn't close the deal.

"We need to develop a winning mentality and be more ruthless when game winning opportunities arise, whether that’s keeping the ball better, not giving away set piece opportunities or simply keeping 11 players on the pitch.

"I’m not sure whether to look at it as four points won or eight points dropped - the answer's probably somewhere in between but my maths isn’t that great," he joked.

Lodge battled back from an early Ilford goal to lead through strikes from Charlie Georgiou and Recce Cosson before the late drama ensured the spoils were shared.

A point apiece was probably a fair result but does little for each sides aspirations to climb the table.
