Lochlan Bearman has built a 100-point lead atop the Hunts Kart Racing Championship standings with just two races remaining following victory on Sunday.

With two rounds left in the championship, the 13-year-old from Theydon Bois can win a maximum of 144 points. Each driver has to drop one score – their lowest points total – meaning Bearman could feasibly wrap up the title in November without the need to race in December.

His lowest score was 98, recorded in round two, and would be the one to go assuming he fares well in the penultimate round at Kimbolton, leaving him with an unassailable lead ahead of the final race of the season.

Speaking after his latest success, the teenager said: “We have been getting on top of the power situation and if it had not been for the back marker I would have been top in qualifying and won both heats and the final – which is what I want to be doing.

“The CooperMotorsport team had the kart set up well and I just had to think about when to make my moves, when to hold and when to attack.

“It all worked out perfectly today. I always thought I could win. It has been good all day.”

On pole for heat one, Bearman was narrowly beaten to the line by James Hillery.

But having done enough for pole once more the youngster won the second heat to ensure he would take pole for the final.

A closely-fought race from start to the finish, Bearman led the field early on before briefly being demoted to second.

The field positions had changed again by lap six with a new leader at the front.

But Bearman regained the lead on lap nine by slipstreaming the leader before making a superb late dive for the front.

The final four laps belonged to the teenager, who got home with ease to seal another victory.
