Wadham Lodge coach Neil Day admitted he was fuming after a stoppage time goal from Fahad Nyanga gave Basildon United a 4-3 victory in the Essex Senior League on Saturday.

Lodge were never at their best defensively but an own goal and strikes from Charlie Georgiou and Reece Cosson looked to be enough to ensure they would take a point back down the A127 before Nyanga's late intervention.

Speaking afterwards, Day said: “For the first time this season I was fuming at the team after the game, the defeat was hard to take as certain players failed to constantly follow instructions and that cost us big time.

“I've got a sore throat from shouting at one of our players to track 'Ninja' but it was simply ignored and you saw the outcome.

“I know better than most what he can do given space where we constantly allowed him to get possession, so the goal was no surprise to me.

“I felt the boys battled hard and deserved a point, so to say I was disappointed is an understatement. Hopefully we can learn from it and move on because if we cut out the errors we could be a good side.”

Defeat sees Lodge slip to fifth ahead of Saturday’s home clash – the first of three in a row – against Tower Hamlets.

Elsewhere in the Essex Senior League, Waltham Forest were unable to build on last weekend’s resounding first win of the season and instead went down 3-0 at home to Eton Manor.

Daniel Florence and Mason Stavri put the visitors 2-0 up inside the opening 20 minutes before Chid Onokwai added a third at the death.
