Waltham Abbey were cruelly denied a third match unbeaten on Saturday as a last-gasp goal saw them go down 2-1 against Aveley in the Isthmian Division One North.
The Abbotts had drawn 0-0 at home to Tilbury last Tuesday and beaten Chalfont St Peter 3-1 in the FA Trophy.
However, Martin Hayes’ men could not stretch that run as a late goal from Billy Holland saw Aveley eke out a 2-1 win at Capershotts on Saturday.
Abbey took the lead nine minutes into the second half when Michael Pindy was sent clear before displaying good close control to score.
But Holland dragged the Millers level in the 71st minute by heading home at the back post.
And with virtually the final kick of the contest, Holland lobbed Abbey keeper Antony Page after being set up by Tarrayn Allarakhia.
The Abbotts face Romford on Tuesday in the Essex County Cup before hosting Grays Athletic in the FA Trophy second qualifying round on Saturday.
Redbridge, who had been due to host Brightlingsea Regent at the weekend, will hope Tuesday’s clash at home to Haringey Borough goes ahead after the rain put paid to Saturday’s fixture.
The Motormen go to Aveley on Saturday.
