Lochlan Bearman won the 2015 Hunts Kart Racing Club Championship at Kimbolton on Sunday to clinch his second Minimax title.

Bearman, who is based in Theydon Bois, already has two Cadet level Championships to his name and won the Minimax category for 11-16 year olds at his first attempt last year.

Reflecting on his triumph, Bearman said: “It’s been a bit of a roller coaster season, but it feels good to show when the equipment is working I was fastest in every race and despite a DNF I nearly won today.

“I think I could have benefited from slightly different gearing but I’m happy to win another championship.

“I’m really grateful to my dad who funds my racing and is my mechanic, Gary Cooper who runs CooperMotorsport for his driver coaching and his technical input which has been so good all season and for everyone that supports me.”

The 13-year-old went into the penultimate round at Kimbolton knowing he needed to score better than his rivals to take the title, eventually finishing second.

Practice went well on Saturday and Bearman had developed a good set up for wet conditions.

Race day was wet and in the first heat Bearman, starting in mid pack, worked his way through the field in the early laps and took the lead.

Having set the fastest lap, Bearman was knocked off his stride when his rear right wheel came off following earlier contact to leave him classified last.

In heat two, Bearman started third on the grid and, after overtaking the leader on lap two, he powered to the win by a clear four seconds.

Middle of the pack again for the final thanks to the DNF from heat one, Bearman made a good start and was running in third in the early laps, battling with teammate James Hillery for second. Their duel enabled leader Patrick Kibble to get away and Bearman, sensing that he had to make a move, passed Hillery.

The teenager was closing fast on Kibble and twice came down the finish straight side-by-side with Kibble as he waited for the chance to make his move.

Kibble defended well for five laps and despite recording the fastest lap of the race for a third time, Bearman could not find a way past.
