Wadham Lodge beat Burnham Ramblers 3-1 to tighten their grip on fourth place in the Essex Senior League.

Janel Alexander gave Lodge the lead inside a minute before Harry Honesty and an own goal sealed the win for Tony Ievoli's side.

Coach Neil Day was delighted with his side's performance and the consistency they have shown of late.

He said: "We've had purple spells in three of our last four games and have all but killed those games off with a by scoring a flurry of goals at the right time.

"Just as importantly, Burnham had some dangerous forwards that we kept quite in the second half.

"The balance between all out attack and defence was good to see and will hopefully stand us in good stead as the season goes on."

Wadham take on Ilford at the Matchday Stadium next Sunday and Day is keen for the local community to embrace the unfamiliar day for Non League football.

"The club need to grow a local fan base in order to progress and we hope the 1.30pm kick-off time so near to Christmas might pull in a few extra spectators.

"Hopefully they will be surprised by the quality of the football and want to come back.

"Ilford have been very supportive in driving the publicity for this game and will hopefully bring a good following of their own."

Elsewhere in the Essex Senior League Waltham Forest continued their pattern of recent weeks by lost 5-1 at Bowers and Pitsea.

It's been win one lose one since Turgut Esendagli returned but after Solomon Ofori's goal the Stags shipped three more to lose comprehensively.
