Ex-Waltham Abbey man Piers Wixon returned to haunt his former side by scoring for new club Harlow Town in Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Barrows Farm Stadium.

Wixon left the Abbotts after starting the season with the Isthmian Division One North strugglers and is currently flying high in seventh with Harlow.

Defeat in Essex leaves Martin Hayes’ side bottom of the pile, six points from safety but with games in hand on the sides above them.

The Hawks took the lead after ten minutes when Ryan Melaugh slipped in Alex Read and he finished low beneath Abbey keeper Aaron Omand.

In the 23rd minute the hosts doubled their lead when ex-Abbott Wixon met a cross from close-range to double up for Harlow.

But after failing to trouble Harlow keeper David Hughes during the first half, the Abbotts rallied after the break and reduced the arrears after nine minutes of the second period.

Tom Wood was the man on target for Abbey, scoring with a curling effort from distance to put the visitors back in the contest.

However, Abbey couldn’t build on Wood’s strike and Harlow saw out the victory.

The Abbotts continue their search for victory at Brightlingsea Regent on Tuesday evening.
