Redbridge fought hard but were ultimately beaten 4-2 at high-flying Cheshunt on Saturday to remain in the Isthmian Division One North relegation zone.

The Motormen are three points from safety owing to their goal difference of minus 60 which won’t have been helped by shipping four against the Ambers.

Much of that was of their own doing as the visitors scored two own goals at Cheshunt Stadium to give the hosts a 2-0 lead after 22 minutes.

Michael Akande put through his own net after six minutes before Stephen Good repeated the trick in the 22nd minute to give the sixth-placed side breathing space.

However, Joe Kizzi did the exact same 13 minutes before half-time to halve the deficit and give Dave Ross and Ricky Eaton’s men a fighting chance.

It was a chance they failed to take, however, with the home side going back into a two-goal lead after 62 minutes. Adam Bolle was the scorer, popping up at the near post to make it 3-1 to Cheshunt.

But seven minutes later Redbridge hit back for a second time, Reside Coxi Sebastfao turning the ball home for the Motormen.

It stayed that way until three minutes from the end when Stuart Zanone swept home from Marcus Milner’s delivery to kill the visitors off.
