Wadham Lodge bounced back from their disappointing Christmas defeat to Ilford in fine style by trouncing Newham 5-1 in the Essex Senior League on Saturday.

A galvanised Lodge settled quickly and braces from Harry Honesty and Charlie Georgiou saw them in a comfortable position before Ashley Bankole’s effort put the icing on the cake for the home side at Kitchener Road.

Tony Ievoli’s side stay fourth, however coach Neil Day was quick to stress the need to string more consecutive wins together as he spoke after the game.

He said: “Credit to the team today, we played some good football despite the conditions and that sets up the difficult games we have coming up nicely.

“We’ve had several long chats after the Ilford game and I think we saw a response to that. Hopefully we can now draw a line under it and concentrate on stringing some wins together.

“Barking have shown how wins on the bounce can catapult you up the league and our aim is to go on a run of our own.

“It will take a lot of hard work and a little luck but we’re more than capable of doing it.”

Lodge go to Bowers and Pitsea on Saturday.
